happy late thanksgiving, and all that. i'd rather think about thanksgiving for a little while still, and extend that idea, instead of admit that even going to target on a saturday night at the beginning of the christmas season was an manaical ordeal i wish to not experience again. lesson re-learned: parking lots during december should be avoided at all costs. (if not for the cars, but those drivers.... )

it's quite amusing, that dead space between 2 little white lines turning into such an conquest. i love the fact that during the whole time these knuckleheads are ripping around the lot, looking for the 'closest' spot they can muster, they would _die_ before parking in one of the MANY open spots one section farther away. i guess the fact that those 25 extra feet adding all of 10-15 seconds to their journey to the entrance is too much for them to bear. and i love the people that force their way around like they're entitled or something. do they practice those scowls and jeers? you'd think there's a class somewhere that i wasn't informed about.

anyway, did the real traditional thanksgiving again this year with mom. went to black angus and had filet mignon. i think she had the prime rib. yeah, we're doing our part. after dinner, we saw unbreakable (it was packed, by the way.. since when did we sneak out of the house while grandpa is asleep on the couch to go catch a flick on thankgiving evening??) which was a very well-thought-out movie. go see it, but don't read anything about it first. many things the critics say can ruin the story. and we wouldn't want that.

hung around here most of the weekend. saw a bunch of movies with friends (unbreakable again, charlies angels, men of honor, rented rudy and tombstone...) oh, and allow me to proclaim just how cool charlie's angels was... i went in there expecting pure crass, but was presented with a playful, campy comedy. we were all into it, hollering and yelling and such. being in a group probably helped, but i left completely surprised with how much i enjoyed it.

and it wasn't just the chicks...

back on the west coast, from an incredible weekend spent at the glorious locale of florida's South Beach.

what a completely obnoxious town.

i was there for the internet only design conference, sponsored by the south florida chapter of AIGA. while there, i won a free copy of adobe acrobat (which i'm going to promptly attempt to change with golive), partied with my new friends from marchFIRST at the 'hottest club in south beach" (it was a pretty amazing club), shook hands with both jeffrey zeldman and clement mok, and rode out my 2nd worst turbulence ever in the flight back (all the flight attendants we talked to afterward said it was the worst they've experienced in their careers. eek.)

throw in some incredible sushi; my new Favorite Hotel of All Time, the delano, which i'll hopefully have pictures of and will definitely visit again and again (even though i paid $14 for a sidecar there); a pizza delivery at 3:30am, meeting some great new friends (some named gina, julie, chris, bravo and emma) from all over the country; and working for a company that would pay for it all.

now, back to work. and back to life. the conference (mostly zeldman and mok) did actually give me a new perspective on my craft. and along with that came a new motivation, a new drive, and a desire for a new momentum. let's hope that newnesss continues to manifest. it could actually turn into something tangible....

oh. and,

vote.

went climbing again at malibu creek last saturday. no new injuries, but i did manage to bust up my prior week's scab on a different rock outcropping on the same route. yeah, fun to be menacing up a line, concentrating on where my handholds are and where i'm sticking my feet, and having a trail of blood seething down my leg.

i think it's time to invest in some climbing pants.

but the weekend turned out great, for two reasons. first, i ran out of chalk. that's cool because it means i've been climbing enough to go thru my first bag. kind of a coming-of-age deal. i'm sure that concept will be the basis of some full-lenth feature movie soon. or at least an after-school special...

second, i went to my restaurant on sunday nite with 3 good friends. Gordon Biersch in burbank is, indeed, my restaurant. and it will remain as such until i find someplace with better house-brewed beer and prettier waitresses(and expeditors).

which is highly unlikely.

my company is sending me and 4 other co-workers to florida today. heading out to south beach for an internet-only design conference, which should be really cool. i've only been to florida once, and even then it was orlando. this time it's miami. and miami is supposed to be a different breed of the typical slice o' american type towns on the east coast.

in fact, i've been warned. by more than a few people. i can't wait. maybe i'll be able to update this while i'm over there.

at any rate, it's already november, just so you know. i was in best buy (again)(it's a bi-weekly event)(even before i wanted a ps2) on halloween and they were playing christmas music. i almost didn't notice until it was pointed out to me. to which i promptly felt disdain. and was nearly reminded of how sick i was after stepping off batman last week.
