anniversary one

check us out, we’ve been married for a year! to celebrate, we took a cab a little south of our city to hike along this crazy gorge and have a picnic out in the middle of nowhere.

after scaling just over 1500 feet, we only started to fully appreciate the sheer granite walls and the view of the icy blue river below.

farther south are mountains in the same range as the Himalayas (though called by a different name out here), and peaks that rise over 23,000 feet. a range a little closer then those, however, with peaks rising about 12,000 feet, became slightly visible (just enough to make out- see picture below) as we climbed our last little ‘peak’ before turning back.

supposedly it’s a half-day's to drive from our city to the base of a mountain 23,400 feet tall. you can be sure we’ll be heading out there sometime. i don’t know what it would take to climb it, but i at least want to see it up close.

the air was warm, the sky cloudless, and we didn’t see any other people. perfect.

last flight...
47 minutes flight time, prop plane, 4 seats per row, 6000+ feet without pressurized cabin= good times. (not to mention the over 120 kilos of 'extra' baggage...)

after five flights, touching four countries, and over 22 hours of flight time: at home, at last!

trying to stay awake.

that’s been the game miranda and i have been playing yesterday and today… after traveling for two days and ending up 10 hours ahead of where you’ve left, your system’s pretty messed up. even after sleeping the majority of the time while we were in the air, adjusting to landing somewhere best compared to where you left as ‘tomorrow’ is a serious task.

today we’re doing better (though it didn’t help that we arrived yesterday at our destination at 4am, with a brand new sun trying to make everything around us a lot brighter than we would have preferred), but while at dinner with a friend tonight both of us suddenly felt it: in an instant it seemed as if our eyelids had gained a massive amount of weight, and it was a struggle to sit up straight and just continue progressive thoughts.

stay awake! that person over there is talking, and expecting you to keep the conversation going with carefully executed nods of your head and audible acknowledgments of understanding.

now it’s 8:44pm, and i’m doing all i can to make it until 9. guess it helps to be staring at a laptop screen and hacking this out (though i’ve been hitting the delete key a lot more than usual…).

we’re here. things are going great. tomorrow it’s one more flight and we arrive at our new city; our new home. can’t wait.
