summer in the middle of asia

the weather can't seem to make up its mind lately... not that it deviates too much from "yeah, it's THAT hot out here," but we've been teased with some midnight thunder and lightning 'storms' (sans rain), and this afternoon it went from sunny-summer-day to dark-and-menacing in a matter of minutes.

(though, even still, all we had was some tempermental wind blowing the city around, and it went back to sunny again.) yeah, i know, it's not rainy season. just thought it would be cool to see a few drops amid the quick moving clouds and blinding flashes in the night sky...

we're learning. miranda and i have been observing and mimicing the locals re: attempting to beat the heat index: like heading to the local public pool and tubing in the local river. it's been good. especially going to some scenic spots within our city to check out the sunsets, as seen above.

life is good! thanks for stopping by.

duct tape? nah, just use an old coke bottle.

i’m not sure why we even wonder.

off and on, these past few months, we’ve been dealing with electricity rationing (and just general power failure). the local government says there isn't enough water in the reservoirs to make the electricity we need. the local people say it's because they're selling power to china, russia, and now, pakistan.

how does one “ration” electricity? for a couple weeks at a time, every three days your house doesn’t have power for one. and on top of that, for a while they just shut off the power from midnite to 7am on all days.

but, honestly, we're pretty used to it. and luckily, as of right now, we’re done with the rationing and just dealing with the surges… at any rate, i've gotten pretty good at making coffee hand-pouring the boiling water into the coffee maker's filter manually instead of being able to turn it on. you kinda find yourself just making do. (and making sure to charge up all your cell phones / laptops / etc. when the power kicks on)

hope things are well for you! we're enjoying our summer. it's been crazy, hence the absence. but, life is good, and, well, we miss you.
