after scaling just over 1500 feet, we only started to fully appreciate the sheer granite walls and the view of the icy blue river below.
farther south are mountains in the same range as the Himalayas (though called by a different name out here), and peaks that rise over 23,000 feet. a range a little closer then those, however, with peaks rising about 12,000 feet, became slightly visible (just enough to make out- see picture below) as we climbed our last little ‘peak’ before turning back.
the air was warm, the sky cloudless, and we didn’t see any other people. perfect.
