trying to stay awake.
that’s been the game miranda and i have been playing yesterday and today… after traveling for two days and ending up 10 hours ahead of where you’ve left, your system’s pretty messed up. even after sleeping the majority of the time while we were in the air, adjusting to landing somewhere best compared to where you left as ‘tomorrow’ is a serious task.
today we’re doing better (though it didn’t help that we arrived yesterday at our destination at 4am, with a brand new sun trying to make everything around us a lot brighter than we would have preferred), but while at dinner with a friend tonight both of us suddenly felt it: in an instant it seemed as if our eyelids had gained a massive amount of weight, and it was a struggle to sit up straight and just continue progressive thoughts.
stay awake! that person over there is talking, and expecting you to keep the conversation going with carefully executed nods of your head and audible acknowledgments of understanding.
now it’s 8:44pm, and i’m doing all i can to make it until 9. guess it helps to be staring at a laptop screen and hacking this out (though i’ve been hitting the delete key a lot more than usual…).
we’re here. things are going great. tomorrow it’s one more flight and we arrive at our new city; our new home. can’t wait.
