notes from thailand...

- raining almost every day. the muggy, warmish kind of rain that is anything but refreshing. and it DUMPS. was on my rented motorcycle/moped deal coming back from a quick trip up the nearby mountain and was caught in an onslaught of wind and water, slick concrete and submerged potholes. so- the thai people casually pull out their little cheap motorcycle rain coat things, and the foreigner gets drenched. neat. check out the white guy who looks like he just jumped in a river with his clothes on... and where's he going, anyway?

- 4th time in the kingdom, and love it. love the food, love the way the thai language sounds, love standing up to honor the king after the previews but before the feature presentation in the movie theatre. fun to feel like a clueless traveler; had the hardest time getting dinner in the mall food court last nite because i didn't have a CLUE how to say any dishes. i finally conceded to walk up to a food stand, look at what the current customer had on their tray, and if it looked edible, i pointed to it and smiled.

- supposed to be some decent rock climbing somewhat nearby, hoping to check that out in a few days. most of my time has been spent hanging out with friends and fellow travelers, exploring the city and hitting up the local DQ. as in like, the place with the blizzards. the milk in east asia is a little off, so- all their sweets and ice cream follows with some awkward tastes... i'm not much of a sweets guy, but when the stuff i'm used to can only be had a couple times year, it's a done deal. i'm on it. and you'd be meeting me there...
