it's all the same...

doesn't matter that it took me half a day to get here from california, that all the signs are in a foreign picto-language or even that i get stared at every single time i leave my apartment... it's the same world, just a different locale. and the longer i live here, the more i'm convinced.

i went running last nite just before 10, headed for the beach. a dusty full moon was out and the evening temperature was the perfect coolness for a quick jaunt. (which pretty much meant i had to go, for fear of ever regretting how close i live to the ocean and how few times i took advantage of that fact)

upon arriving at the beach, i walked down into the sand way out to where the low-tide waterline was lapping the shore (not much in the 'breakers' department out here...), and was greeted with a glowing phenomenon that i'd only seen about a half a dozen times in my life. (yet, all those times, were out West...).

ever seen it? at first the ocean is black as ink, lumbering silently along, absentmindedly chasing after the shore. then, it's a bright, glowing blue-white sparkle at the top of a cresting wave as it catches the sky. the entire whitewater surges shockingly blue along the path of the break, resembling electricity and lightning and neon all at the same time. then it's gone, quickly as it began, begging your thoughts to wonder its reality...

i stood there for a good ten minutes, and my eyes were watering from staring; straining to keep them open as to not miss a flash.

whatever. it was pretty sweet. i don't over-dramatize: being born and raised in soCal, just feeling the sand under my feet from being at the ocean is applying medication to any discomforting thoughts or pressures in my life. seeing this blue magic only adds potency... and last nite i left a cured man.

if you're curious: (from yahoo)
What causes the beautiful blue-green lights you see glowing in the ocean waves at night?

have a great day, and if you're out in soCal and amongst all those record-breaking-it's-so-hot-out-here-i've-lost-ten-pounds-through-sweat days, grab some serious a/c...
